“If you believe it, you can achieve it,” that’s the best mantra that can be used to describe upcoming Singer and guitarist Mitchell Mideva’s quest to becoming the queen of classical music like her role models Nina Ogot and Sonah Jobarteh.
Mitchell shared her musical journey a fortnight ago with Ghetto Radio News Team, where she laid the emphasis of taking over the classical world of music.
“My role models are Nina Ogot, I love her work, her style. I love authenticity, it’s what sets you apart. I love Sonah Jobarteh, am greatly influenced by her music and kora. I find that I am very ‘traditional’ in so many of my musical aspects and style. Therefore, am greatly drawn to that even with my writing and guitar” Said Mitchell.
She maintained that she’s set her eyes to becoming nothing but the best as far as classical music is concerned, from playing the guitar to composition.
“My future aspirations are to be one of the best female classical guitarist’s here in Kenya… If not the best haha (giggles). Write music that you can go back to every time – timeless, to connect with my audience soul so deeply that it awakens” She added.
Mitchell has a musical background that runs deep in her family. Her grandfather was a singer and songwriter who composed lots of Luhya gospel songs. It’s this aspect that has greatly influenced her path in music.
A graduate in music from Kenyatta University,Mitchell points out at music as a huge part of her,she continues to push herself daily to becoming better in her craft.
She also has a diploma in human rights and mental health.A champion for mental illnesses, she works towards reducing suffering in mental health by advocating for wellness through open talk ‘Tuskize Tusaidiane’.
Her biggest concern in the music industry is lack of proper structures in aiding up and coming music stars. Want to learn how to play the guitar Mitchell can take you through the paces. Find her on social media networks as Mideva Mitchell (Facebook) and Gracia _Mideva (Instagram)
