Ida Odinga Apologises Over Regulation Of Churches Remarks

Ida Odinga, the wife of ODM leader Raila Odinga, has apologised over a statement she made on the regulation of churches over the weekend.

Ida says that she has realized that the comments she made at the Church of Christ In Africa di not sit well with church members.

According to Ida, her comments were not meant to harm or cause discomfort to any person.

“I sincerely apologize for the discomfort caused as I meant no harm to any person,” said Ida.

She has also stated that her position on training of preachers was also blown out of context.

“I retaliate that training only makes the service of preaching better and promote the ministration of the word of God. As a committed believer in Jesus Christ, I understand that preaching is a calling and anyone can be touched to administer the word of  God,” said Ida Odinga.

Previous Statement by Idah Odinga

On Saturdat, Ida had challenged the council of churches of Kenya to regulate the mushrooming of churches in the country.

She argued that regulation would weed out religious sects that lacked a clear structure.

“I used to like drawing maps, if you put a pin at the centre of my home on a map and measure 1km with a string and draw around to make 360°. Within 1km from my home, there are 200 churches. Some of them you find a man and his wife with few children. I know it is good to have churches but we are not being effective that way why do we have many churches? This where NCCK comes in,” said Ida

She advised the body to ensure that all churches get registered to ensure that all church leaders get trained.

In 2020,Kangema Mp Muturi Kigano tabled a bill in parliament to regulate the formation and registration of churches and other religious institution in the country.

The bill aimed at amending the Societies Act to empower the Register of Societies to bring Sanity to the sector.
