IEBC Disqualifies Jimi Wanjigi From Presidential Race
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has disqualified presidential aspirant Jimi Wanjigi from the presidential race citing lack of a degree.
IEBC Chairman who is also the Returning Officer for presidential candidates also stated that Wanjigi who expressed interest of vying on a Safina Party ticket did not meet the minimum numbers of supporters.
“The Returning Officer for the Presidential Election, Wafula Chebukati rejects the application by Safina Party’s Presidential candidate Jimi Wanjigi to be registered as a Presidential candidate for failing to provide a degree certificate,” said Chebukati.
“The Safina Party Presidential candidate Jimi Wanjigi’s application also did not meet the required minimum number of supporters as it fell short by one (1) county,” he further stated.
Wanjigi has however protested the move saying that his refection is being influenced by some powerful parties.
“There is a very clear mchujo that is being applied somewhere else not here. You cannot apply different rules to different people,” said Wanjigi.
