IEBC Throws Out Reuben Kigame’s Petition

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Disputes Resolution Committee has dismissed the complaint that had been filed by the presidential aspirant Reuben Kigame.

The tribunal chaired by Commissioner Juliana Cherera says that the commission has no power to make declaration on the complainant that are not grounded on the existing law.

‘As a commission in strict adherence to the constitution, the Commission has no powers to make declarations on the petitions not grounded on existing laws,” stated Madam Cherera.

The tribunal further declared  that  it has no jurisdiction to bend its policies  to favour an aspirant and in particular  the minimum  number  of signatures  collection within  the stipulated  time frame.

“The Commission has no powers to change the policy  in favour  of an aspirant as the law requires  the aspirant was expected  to collect  signatures and submit  to the  the Returning Officer  for clearance  within  strict constitutional timeline, since the aspirant  did not adhere to set rule, I therefore  dismiss the complaint with no order as to caused,” Madam Cherera  ruled.
