IEBC Told To Stop Playing Puppets To Big Political Parties

Independent candidates have now asked Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC to stop giving in to political parties’ demands saying the commission has now become a puppet for top political parties.

According to David Otieno of Independent Candidates Caucus they feel that some of the demands that were laid to IEBC by UDA and ODM presidential aspirants are not genuine and are geared to stem up their interests.

“We want to make it clear that IEBC is independent and IEBC cannot play to a gallery of everyone what they need to do is that they should strictly follow the law not the wind of political bigwigs. Already as independent candidates we think that IEBC is playing to the gallery of political parties by ensuring that the independent candidates have an uphill task of collecting ID copies and signatures we feel that they are  unfair to us,” he said.

They have also raised concerns on the demands for clearances of independent candidates by the commission

“We were subjected to an unfair process for my case I was cleared for Westlands Member of parliament seat but I can assure you it was rigorous process, they required 1000 signatures accompanied by IDs   I collected close to 2,000 signatures but when we went to IEBC they run them in their system and they claimed that a good number was not okay…” he added.

Chebukati has however, heeded to one of the demand of  Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga on data transmission.

The commission will today do a dry run for the system in the presence of all presidential chief agents.

“What you referred to as simulation the dry run of technology will be done next week on or before 9th here at Bomas and you have given us a chief agent to work with and your team, you will be invited to be part of that simulation exercise,” Chebukati said.
