Independent Candidates Take IEBC To Court Over Stringent Rules

Independent Candidates Nazlin Umar and Majimaji when they filed their petition

A group of independent candidates have moved to court to compel the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to move the elections date from 8 of August.

The candidates led by presidential candidate Nazlin Umar and Embakasi ward aspirant Julius Owino otherwise known as Majimaji also want the court to compel IEBC to open their closed doors on independent aspirants.

The group is further accusing IEBC of frustrating independent candidates.

Umar further accused IEBC of dismissing the signatures she had collected from all the 47 counties.

“How do i establish that this is an independent voter and this is not?” lamented Umar.

“even if i was able to establish that, two days of getting 1000 signatures in all the 47 counties is not applicable. That is why i want the IEB to move the elections date for us to meet these unlawful demands,” she stated.

The candidates accused IEBC of being used by parties to bar them from vying as indpendent candidates.
