Jamaican Reggae Star Jah Cure Sentenced to 6 in Prison for Attempted Manslaughter

Celebrated Jamaican Reggae star Jah Cure has been sentenced to 6 years in jail for attempted manslaughter.

In October 2021, the musician allegedly stabbed a promoter Nicardo ‘Papa’ Blake in his abdomen at Amsterdam where he was set to perform.

He claimed that he had not been paid for a performance he had made two days before at Blake’s concert.

“The 43-years old man was sentenced to six years in prison, with credit for time served, for attempted manslaughter. The court finds him not guilty of attempted murder. His claim of self-defense was rejected by the court.”  Read a release from Netherlands Public Prosecution Service.

The prosecution had however recommended the musician to be sentenced to eight years in prison.

“The prosecutor has asked the court to convict the 43-year-old reggae singer for attempted murder, and that the suspect should be put away for eight years with credit for time served,” read the prosecution’s report.

This was not possible when Jah Cure’s defended himself claiming that he stabbed the promoter out of self-defense.

“He is a real criminal. If I had waited a minute, it would have been me,” said Jah Cure.

This will be Jah Cure’s second time in prison. In 1998, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison for raping and robbing a woman at gunpoint.
