Kenyan musician Jovial has revealed that she has never joined another record label after parting ways with Otile Brown.
The sassy singer says that despite working independently, she still has a management team to help her with building her brand.
She has also advised artists to always learn how to go about their business and to be more creative in the industry.
“Right now I am an independent artist. Kila kitu najifanyia mwenyewe and I have a team, unajua mziki ni biashara lazima ukuwe na team kama manager so lazima kukuwe na kikundi cha watu ambao lazima ukuwe na wao ndio wanaweza kufanya brand ikuwe brand. You cannot do everything by yourself. As an artist, you need to learn your business and focus more on creative,” Jovial said.
Jovial says that she enjoys being independent because she is free trying new things and not being directed what to do.
“Mimi naona kwanza sahi nikona uhuru mzuri sana. Nikona uhuru wa kufanya chochote ninachotaka, wa kuweza kulearn Zaidi. Am a hustler, I would say that, mimi sipendi kuletewa kit utu yenye iko ready nikama niletewe chakula imepikwa kwa sahani. I feel like working independently inanifanya naweza kujua vitu nyingi Zaidi kuliko before vile nilikuwa nawork kwenye label kila kitu nilikuwa naletewa yani singeweza kujua vitu zingine,” she added.
She further said that they are still friends with Otile Brown despite falling apart and are free doing music collabos.
“Otile and I are friends, so anaweza nipigia simu like let us work on something, I have a song, let’s work together then hivyo ndio tunaend up kuwork pamoja. Otile does reach out, si unajua yeye ni mtu huwezi reach out anytime unataka and that is one of the reasons why tukona ngoma nyingi nay eye even if nilitoka record label yake,” says the musician.
Jovial in a previous interview said that she was forced to use a lawyer in order to leave Otile Brown’s record label.
