Joseph Irungu alias ‘Jowie’ has been sentenced to life in prison over the murder of the businesswoman Monica Kimani.
Last month, the High Court found Jowie guilty of the murder of businesswoman Monica Nyawira Kimani, who was brutally killed on the night of September 19, 2018, at her Lamuria Gardens apartment in Nairobi.
The prosecution had persuaded the court to pronounce death sentence.
Lady Justice Nzioka ruled that the prosecution had adduced adequate evidence and proved beyond reasonable doubt that Jowie indeed killed Monica.
The court however acquitted former news anchor Jacque Maribe of the murder charge, with the judge stating that the count of murder was not the proper charge that the prosecution would have preferred against her.
However the family of the slain said the sentence was lenient, but were glad justice had been served.
Jowie’s Pleadings
Convict Jowie Irungu in the probation report pleaded to be spared death sentence and instead ask the court to pass a custodial sentence, arguing that he is a first-time offender.
However Justice Nzioka rubbished Jowie’s pleadings saying he is ineligible for rehabilitation and re-institution as she renders sentence.
