Her remarkable achievements on the track have earned her a spot alongside other good athletes such as Shericka Jackson and ShaCarri Richardson.

Other people that Kipyegon will be competing with are Spanish footballer Aittana Bonmati, American Alpine Skier Mikaela Shiffrin, and polish tennis queen Iga Swiatek.

In the men’s category, football icon Lionel Messi leads the nominations, having previously clinched the award twice.

He faces stiff competition from the likes of Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen, pole vault prodigy Mondo Duplantis, sprint sensation Noah Lyles, tennis maestro Novak Djokovic, and football phenom Erling Haaland.

Tribute to Kiptum

Kipyegon was among the many athletes who addressed mourners at the late World marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum’s service.

“I don’t have much to say. Yego has said it all. Mine is just to say rest in peace Kiptum, till we will meet again. We’ll miss you. Bye,”she said.

While giving her tribute, she described the late as jovial, kind hearted person and disciplined while executing his duties.

“I have never met an athlete like Kiptum. He was always jovial, kind and very disciplined… We were so hopeful of him in the upcoming event… I have lost a friend,” she added.

She also revealed that indeed she had lost a friend revealing that they were both hopeful ahead of his upcoming event.
