The Judicial Service Commission has recommended the appointment of Lady Justice Martha Koome as the next Chief Justice of Kenya.

JSC Chairperson Olive Mugenda says that the JSC has already submitted Koome’s name to President Uhuru Kenyatta for submission.

“The commission wishes to thank all the candidates, all Kenyans and all stakeholders for their participation in the recruitment process,” said Mugenda.

Koome who has 33 years legal experience, is currently serving as the judge of the Court of Appeal.

Koome is regarded as a family law expert with a keen interest on children affairs.

During her interview she was hard pressed to explain her stand on matrimonial law by the JSC panel.

“If I got married today and I have some property, my spouse is not entitled to it. And if I got married and my husband has some property, I am not entitled to it because that is his property,” she said.
