Legendary musician Jua Cali has attributed his success and ability to stay relevant in the music industry to his friendship with young and upcoming artists.
According to Jua Cali, this has helped him keep up with the changing trends in the music industry.
The Genge Music founder says that it is hard to separate the youth with music hence the need for older artists to make friendship with them.
“Music itself changes naturally music changes so who am I not to change. So hiyo ni kitu over the years nimekuwa nikijua. Alafu unajua ni a young man’s thing, yani muziki ni ya the youth na pia ni a young man’s pot. It is something vibrant, so lazima niweke vijana karibu na mimi sana. Nikiwaeducate na wao wananipea masheng mpya,” Jua Cali said.
The musician who has been in the industry for more than 20 years attributed the fall of many musicians to their lust for money.
“Pia wanaanza kunifundisha vitu kama apps mpya zimetokea. All in all lazima niwaweke karibu ndio wanekeep young, my thoughts zinabaki young adi vile nadeliver. Na hiyo ndio kitu imeniweka haa. Alafu pia kupenda mzuki, unajua ukipenda muziki huwezi kuwa rigid kwa kitu moja na utaenda na the trends vile zinakuja,” he added.
Jua Kali further urged Kenyan artists to stop the jealousy and support each other.
“Music industry is a multi-billion industry and there is something for everyone. Mimi sijanyima mtu kitu so hii story yenye watu wananiambia niwache kuimba ni trash. Nimeingia mtandanaoni na sijaona retirement age ya any artist. Mimi sijazuia any artist na pia siwezi control kama muziki yangu itachezwa kwa club ama radio. Mimi Napata share yangu na wengine waone shares zao.”
