Two county askaris escaped an attack from angry youth by a whisker after they were accosted by county askaris.
The two askaris sought refuge inside a nearby supermarket in order to escape the attack by the youth who were angered by their alleged harassment.
Jason Karugu a youth who spoke to Ghetto Radio stated that trouble started when the two county askaris poured out coffee and mandazis that were being sold by a hawker.
“They came here, found this young man hustling hard and selling his coffee and mandazis only for them to pour everything out on the ground,” said Karugu.
“This angered many of the youth who started stoning them. They then ran and took refuge at a supermarket to escape the attack,” said Karugu.
Police were forced to calm down the angry youth before the county askaris were released from the supermarket.
The angered youth lamented against the incident accusing county askaris of harassing the youth.
“We are suffering. We don’t have jobs and the little hustles we are doing are being frustrated by these county askaris. There is someone who is buying smokies at Ksh. 18 to sell it at 20 in order to survive,” said Karugu.
They are appealing to Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja to quickly intervene in the situation.
