Kariobangi Matatu owners sacco members in Nairobi have now called on the Government to intervene with regards to the on going process of electing new sacco officials.
The members allege that it has not been easy to conduct sacco elections due to the current chairperson’s decision not to back the process.
They claimed to have followed the due process in the whole exercise in there quest to revamp the sacco which has been dogged by allegations of misappropriation of funds.
The members are now accusing the current chair Bernard Njoroge together with other Sacco officials of embezzling funds meant for development.
When the newly elected officials and members visited their offices recently, the out going chairperson issued the members a letter from the Ministry of Co-operatives and SME’s revoking a letter confirming that elections were conducted. The members were left questioning the authenticity of the letter revoking their elections this is despite the same office earlier confirming that indeed the elections were held on 23rd December 2022.
The agitated members have raised concern that for the past 3 years they have not been receiving their dividends. Some of the members complain that their businesses have also been affected as they are paying all the Sacco dues but they can’t get the benefits.
The members who voted out Bernard Njoroge as their chairperson during an election meeting have now raised concern that if the said ministry won’t intervene then members assets might be swindled by the unwanted officials who are still forcing their stay in office.
