KARIOBANGI RESIDENTS TO PROTEST OVER DELAYED TAKE-OVER OF MAMA MARGRET HOSPITAL

-Mama Margret Kenyatta Hospital  offers only paediatric services.

Kariobangi North residents have threatened to hold demonstration over delayed  Mama Margret Kenyatta  Hospital should the County Government of Nairobi  continue dilly dally on   the take-over exercise of the facility.

Residents Demand

According to the residents the 400 million shillings project is not beneficial to the members of the community who are forced to walk long distance in search of better health services.

“Hii hosi haitusaidi gavanare alisema wanachukua hii hosi waweke madawa na kuleta equipment za kutibu magonjwa zingine lakini mpaka saa hii hatujacheki works hapa hivi….wasee wanaumia wamama wetu wanatembea long distance and hours wakienda kutafuta matibabu kwa hosi zingine.” Raymond a resident said.

“The Kenyatta National Hospital is doing very little here because they are only offering paediatric services it is a process but we would like it be prompt so that the larger population can get every medical services in this facility,”  Sam another resident added.

Hospital Capacity

The construction of the 350-bed capacity hospital was revived by the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) in July 2021.

Former President Kenyatta said the hospital will serve as a referral hospital to the surrounding medical institutions including Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital.

He said that there are 19 completed hospitals of the proposed 24 to treat ordinary Kenyans who cannot afford private hospital services. “These hospitals have now treated hundreds of thousands of Kenyans in the last two or three years.”

Early this month Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja said that process was under way and they will equip  it fully. He said it will provide  all medical services just like any other level 5 Hospital.
