Kasarani Residents Demonstrate Against Construction Of Courts, Want Hospitals

A section of Kasarani residents today took to the streets to demonstrate against the construction of Law Courts in the area.

The residents claim that the construction of law courts is misplaced since they want a hospital.

The residents claim that they have suffered for a long time and have had to walk long distances to access hospitals.

“We thought that this was a maternity hospital only to later on find that it is a court that is being constructed,” they cried.

“Many women have died after giving birth on the roads and in the houses due to lack of hospitals. We have to go all the way to Kiambu County and Pumwani in order to access these services,” they said.

The women claim that they need a hospital more than law courts.

Unknown to the residents, the mandate of construction of the construction of law courts and hospitals lies with two different entities.

Last month Chief Justice Martha Koome commissioned the construction of Small Claims Courts and the Kasarani Court was one of the many Small Clpaims Courts alongside Kasarani, Dagoretti, Kayole, Mukuru Mihang’o and Embakasi.

The mandate to construct hospitals however lies with national government and the county government.
