Kawangware Residents Decry High Rate Of Insecurity

A section of residents in Nairobi’s Kawangware area is decrying the increasing rate of insecurity in the area.

The residents claim that young children are currently involved in robbery incidents with the full knowledge of their parents.

One of the residents who sought anonymity stated that most of these parents have instead shielded their children from facing the law following their criminal acts.

“Some parents think that their children are old enough to do whatever they want, when your report to them of any suspicious act of their children, they turn against you and instead claim that you are defaming their families,” said the resident.

Vincent Oyoo a Nyumba Kumi Chairperson says that this has in turn led to high cases of muggings and robberies in the area.

Oyoo says that the cases can only go down if the welfare of the young people are empowered economically.

“The effort to curb insecurity must address the economic empowerment of youth, because it is clear that this energetic young people are robbing people to survive, so the government must ensure that youths with are in absorbed in various youths groups that are economically viable,” Oyoo said

The effort of Ghetto Radio to reach the Kabiria location Chief for comments was however futile as our calls were not answered.
