Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) has pledged a sponsorship of Ksh 34 million to support the 2024 Magical Kenya Open through its premium whisky brand Johnnie Walker.
This commitment marks a renewed and continued partnership between KBL and the tournament.
The sponsorship grants KBL the status of the Official Alcoholic Beverage partner for the event. In this capacity, KBL aims to enhance the overall experience of the tournament by sponsoring entertainment activities at the tournament village and providing fans with a taste of its various brands.
The financial support will also aid the tournament organizers, Kenya Open Golf Limited (KOGL), in fulfilling their obligations related to event organization and prize money.
As part of the sponsorship, KBL will also support three Kenyan professional golfers participating in the tournament: Dismas Indiza, Samuel Njoroge, and Daniel Nduva.
The Magical Kenya Open, part of the DP World Tour, is one of the premier golf tournaments in Africa, attracting elite golfers from around the world.
The event, scheduled from February 22 to 25, 2024, will take place at the par-71 Muthaiga Golf Club, with a Pro-Am scheduled for February 21.
This edition will mark the fifth staging of a full European Tour event in Kenya since 2019.
The tournament boasts a strong field of 144 elite golfers competing for a prize purse of $2.5 million (approximately KES 360,000,000).
KBL Managing Director Mark Ocitti expressed pride in the company’s long-standing support for golf in Kenya and emphasized that the sponsorship aligns with Johnnie Walker’s “Keep Walking” philosophy.
Ocitti promised fans an exceptional experience, and the sponsorship underscores KBL’s commitment to support individuals striving to be the best version of themselves.
KOGL Commercial Director Ronald Meru praised KBL for the sponsorship, noting its significance in ensuring the success of the tournament and positioning Kenya as an international tourism and sporting destination. The tournament will feature a mix of Kenyan and international golfers, contributing to the country’s reputation on the global golfing stage.
