KCPE/KCSE candidates are likely to sit for their national exams in April 2021, Education CS George Magoha has said.
Appearing before the the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-19, Prof. Magoha, however, pointed out that there is a possibility that schools might not reopen in September as intended due to the rising number of coronavirus cases.
He added that if the exams are not held in April 2021, it might not be possible to have the tests held next year.
“We are looking at the calendar at what time we can open schools and do exams, if we opened in September we might do exams in April, beyond that it won’t be feasible to do the exams, Although we intended to open in September, as of now I can’t say if that will be possible. At this stage, our numbers are going up, and we might have a peak in September or October and we will decide if we would want to open our schools.” he said
The CS further said that should the exam miss the April 2021 slot there will be a huge shift in the education system in the country.
The CS said if the national exams won’t be done by April 2021, “then we must be prepared for what I don’t want to say at the moment.” he added
