KCSE candidate attempts to commit suicide

An NGO in Kisumu County has rescued a KCSE candidate who reportedly attempted to commit suicide after fleeing from home.

Melvin Akinyi allegedly fled home after she was allegedly mistreated and forced by her uncle to find a job.

Save Girl Child Network Kenya Ambassador Peter Oyoo says that he was called by County Probation officer who spotted the girl Near highway Club in Tom Mboya Estate.

According to Oyoo, the girl was crying and had poison in her hands which she wanted to use to commit suicide.

“Yesterday evening, I rescued a girl by name Melvin Akinyi. The girl has been living under hardships from her uncle who forced her to look for a job, after she completed her exams saying that she is adult now. She was found near a Club crying,” said Oyoo.

Oyoo says that upon interrogation, he found out that the girl was living in a deplorable condition.

He says that after counselling, they will take her to a rehabilitation centre.

“We have done some counseling to her, and she is responding positively. Currently she is at the Kondele Police Station Gender department. We are planning to take her to Agape Rehabilitation Centre,” he added.
