KEBS refutes mercury claims in seized contraband sugar

The Kenya Bureau of Standards has denied claims that the seized that seized contraband sugar has mercury.

KEBS Managing Director Charles Ongwae told MPs that a sample of sugar they tested had no heavy metals.

Mr Ongwae told the National Assembly’s Committee on Trade that he was not aware where Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i got the results showing the alleged dirty sugar had mercury.

But he said it might be possible to get different results if another sample is taken.
