Kenya Lifts Mandatory Wearing Of Masks

Health CS Mutahi Kagwe has lifted the Mandatory wearing of masks in open public places.

The CS however says that people should still maintain the social distancing and avoid crowded places.

“The mandatory wearing of masks in public spaces is now lifted… We however encourage the use of masks in all indoor functions, the interfaith council will advise on places of worship” said Kagwe.

Kagwe however stated that whoever wants to wear a mask can do.

“We are saying that masks are no longer mandatory. Whoever wants to wear them can still wear them,” he said.

He says that the decision was made following the low positivity rate recorded in the past one month.

“In the last one month from Feb 10, our positivity rate has been below 1 per cent. We believe we have made the right decision,” he said

Speaking during a media briefing, Kagwe also allowed worship places to have a full capacity of congregations.
