Kenya has officially launched the 16 days of activism with calls to have a multisectoral approach to end Gender Based Violence.

Speaking at the launch of the 16 days of activism organized by UN Women, Gender and Public Service Cabinet Administrative Secretary Beatrice Elachi also highlighted the government’s efforts towards ending Gender Based Violence.

“We have engaged the duty bearers, law enforcement agencies and medical practitioners to strengthen response to GBV,” said Elachi.

According to Elachi the government has already revamped two safe houses in Nairobi and Migori Counties in its efforts to end GBV.

“Importantly we have revamped two safe houses in Nairobi and Migori Counties to ensure the safety of GBV survivors and we will continue to do more,” she stated.

Elachi further stated that they have developed guidelines for the management of county recovery centers and also to ensure that GBV victims get access to required services.

The launch of the 16 days of activism also saw survivors of GBV share their horrendous experiences of violence.

UN Women Country Director Anna Mutavati recognized Kenya’s bold steps towards ending GBV.

The launch will see the iconic KICC building illuminated orange for the entire 16 days.

This year’s theme is Orange The World; End Violence Against Women Now!
