Kenya Power Embarks On An Exercise To Install Smart Meters
Kenya Power on Thursday embarked on an exercise to fit smart meters at Njiru Light Industries in its efforts to fight commercial losses by combating electricity theft.
The smart meters will enable Kenya Power to remotely monitor usage by customers and bill them accordingly.
Kenya Power’s Nairobi South Region County Business Manager Eng. Barnabas Muli says that they managed to install the smart meters on 22 business premises.
“We engaged with the business community, and debited the lost units, which the business owners will pay for. We would like to remind our customers that it is a serious offence to engage in any third party interference with our network, including electricity theft and illegal connections; offenders will face the full force of the law,” said Muli.
“Our security teams are on high alert for anyone who is unlawfully interfering with our network. We intend to take firm and decisive action on the culprits,” he stated.
Kenya Power is currently working closely with the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) to track down persons behind the criminal acts.
“We call upon the media to support us in this fight by exposing these illegal activities to sensitize the public so as to safeguard everyone from the risks that arise due to the vice.”
