The Kenya Power company is now on spot for failing to respond promptly to major blackout being experienced in Various estates in Nairobi.
In their defense the company through acting Street Lighting Manager Peter Njenga acknowledged the challenge saying sometimes they do not get information in the correct time.
The officers who were appearing before transport committee at the Nairobi County Assembly, appeared shocked after learning that some areas like Mathare in Mabatini ward, Utalii and some parts of Kiamaiko were experiencing blackouts.
‘‘We are actually not aware but what we can promise the mess will be rectified immediately,’’ Njenga said.
Meanwhile Kenya Power is also on the spot for only pushing and funding projects of well connected politicians like governors , members of parliament leaving out ward respresentive projects.
‘‘Yes it is true this is a big challenge and we need to have a central communication unit at the county for the projects being done but if it’s left for every connected politicians then some projects may not be attended to,’’ Njenga reiterated.
Komarock MCA John Kamau, who is also the chairman of the Environment Committee accused powerful politicians of sabotaging various lighting projects at his ward.
He further accused the junior officers of not responding positively concerning power projects and blackouts and that they always serve their ‘masters.’
‘‘This is a major problem hampering this projects ,there is a lot of sabotage among junior officers who are colluding with other politicians not to deliver..it must be addressed.’’ Kamau said.
