The Music Copyright Society Of Kenya has had a pleasant share of up and downs especially with it’s registered members.
In the past, MCSK has fallen out with popular Kenyan artistes precisely over underpayment, lack of payment at all and at times delay with payment.
Whilst Elani complained of taking home 3,100/- Kshs as their share on a certain year, Eunice Njeri blasts Safaricom over making allegedly Kshs 30,000,000 with her money through Skiza Tunes.
Other artistes who almost ended in jail with MCSK is one vocal but controversial gospel artiste one Ringtone. It has not been easy for MCSK and it is not getting easier either with the recently distributed PPP payments.
Fortunately or rather unfortunately, local dancehall artiste Miggy Champ riding high with his hit “Najidai” was amongst the selected artistes to receive 2016’s PPP distribution fee but instead received 1500/- contrary to the slated 2000/-.
PPP Distribution simply translates to Performance in public places distribution fee which for this year amounted 25 million Kshs that was to be distributed amongst selected artiste with each pocketing Ksh. 2000 (Going by what the MCSK website firstname.lastname@example.org
Only members who are 1 year and above in the society and have been successfully vetted will qualify for the distribution.
Miggy took to his Facebook to express his disappointment by using words such as “Potelea Mbali!”.
“After waiting for over 3 years, finally MCSK paid me PPP Distribution.. Guess how much it was? Kshs 1,500. 😠 MCSK hile Moto Mungu atawachoma nayo ishawashwa already. Potelea Mbali. Nkt!!! #Furious #SadMan,” posted Miggy.
According to him, he had waited for the PPP distribution for over three years just to get rewarded with peanuts.
