Kenyan Deejay turned Music producer Jones Achido popularly known as Vdj Jones has come under heavy criticism from netizens for allegedly demanding payment from artists in order to play their music.
Jones stated that unless an artist is signed in his recently formed stable ‘Superstar Entertainment’ he or she will have to pay him in order for him to play his music.
The celebrated desk master who rose to prominence a few years ago by having his mixtapes play in Matatu’s argues that he also has bills to pay and will no longer be engaged in charity work.
“Wewe msanii umeenda huko kwa studio, umeenda umerecord ngoma yako kwa studio ingine mahali, umelipa pesa ya recording, umeenda kwa video director umelipa pesa ya video, then wewe na hiyo kichwa yako unakuja unanitext ama unaniambia support my music, mimi ntakula nini? Mimi pia nina bills za kulipa so before you send me your links maze support my hustle too. So mimi si charity, mimi pia nina chakula ya kukula so make sure ukinitumia ngoma yenye sio ya Superstar Ent. Mpesa muhimu, ata mimi nafaa kukula,” said Jones in part of his statement.
His sentiments however did not go well with a section of his followers.
Many took offense for his audacity and wanted to know if other major world Star’s pay him when he plays their music.
“Kiulizo pia wewe lipa @diamondplatinumz@harmonize_tz@meekmill ukiwacheza ama wao hukulipa? Haki yetu???,” shot one user.
“This kind of reasoning is outdated, what if the artists whom you put their songs into your mixes could reason this way” fired another follower.
“Peleka uko bangi mingi ka uwezi saidia jiekee mahn hawa watu unadharau leo kesho ndio watakulisha roho mbaya mtakufa mtaacha tu hizo magari mnalilia na hizo bills zenu FAKE,” fired a third agitated fan.
Some however supported him saying music is also business.
