A Nairobi based matatu driver George Kariuki was lauded online on Thursday April 5th for stepping in to help a mother deliver her child in his matatu.
George singlehandedly catered for the lady on after she went into labour in his car delivering the baby and taking both mother and child to the hospital.
Witnesses say that as soon as the lady got her labour pains, the conductor and passengers alighted and left her helpless.
George guided the lady in pushing out the baby and instructed her to hold on to the little one as he got into the driver’s seat and quickly drove them to Neema Hospital where they received medical attention.
George then went on to contact the lady’s husband who was in Narok and kept checking in to find out if the mother and child were in good health.
“When the head popped , I helped the lady push the baby. I told her to hold the baby, closed the door and rushed her and baby boy to Neema hospital. I also called her husband who was in Narok and later followed up to ensure baby and mum are okay,”
Several online users congratulated George for his heroic act saying not most Matatu drivers can do such an act.
