Kenya under 18 international Hillary Okoth and his compatriot Bill Okumu are set to join Illinois University for a scholarship.

The duo got the opportunity through College Connect International in partnership with Beyond Hoops Africa after a 2-day Football Talent Scouting in the Country which took place at the St Mary’s School in Nairobi.

This was the second edition of the Africa scouting tournament whereby over 120 footballers showed up for the event in February 2020 but failed to travel because of the Corona Virus Pandemic.

Beyond Hoops Africa is a project that was founded by James Karanja Kamau who was born in Dagoretti, Nairobi to a community fraught with drugs, violence and Poverty.

His experience as a child led him to desire social change. He followed this initiative by earning a diploma in community development from the Kenya School of Social Work.

James entered the world of activism in 2003 and has spent the last seven years performing youth work and facilitating community development.

He spent seven years playing Premiere League Basketball in Kenya which gave him the opportunity to mentor youth through sport.

He uses this program as a tool for social change, focusing on Life skills.

College Connect International is a college recruiting company for talented students interested in furthering their education in the USA.
