Kenyans have expressed mixed reactions following the DPP’s decision to charge Pangani’s police officer Ahmed Rashid with murder.

Rashid who is known for fighting crime in Eastleigh caused an uproar in 2017 when he shot dead a suspected criminal in broad daylight.

The incident caused an uproar among civil society who demanded that he be investigated and charged with murder over the extrajudicial killings.

IPOA yesterday announced that the DPP had decided to charge Rashid after reviewing a file of investigations he had sent him.

The move has elicited mixed reactions from ordinary wananchi with some claiming that the arraignment of Rashid in court will see a rebirth of crime and lawless gangs in Eastleigh. Some even argued that he should be rewarded.

“AHMED RASHID ACHIEVEMENTS 1. Ending Group Gangs 2. Restoring Law and Order in Eastlands 3. Businesses can close late hours 4. Banning all gang youths bases in Eastleigh 5. Earning the trust of residents The gov should recognize him for fighting to reduce criminals in Kenya !,” tweeted Amedo Shair.

“If Ahmed Rashid will be charged Then Eastleigh will be a no go zone due to insecurity,” said Hajjy Mtrue.

“IPOA should leave Ahmed Rashid alone. Those recommending his trial live in secured estates and dont know a thing about insecurity. Eastleigh & Mathare residents have not complained…who are you?” posed Muriuki Eugene.
