Kibera woman pleads guilty to child abuse
A Kibera woman who was arrested for physically assaulting her seven year old niece in Kibra constituency has pleaded guilty to the charges of abuse.
Asha Babu who was arrested on Friday says that she was undergoing some unexplained sort of anger and unfortunately released it on the girl.
The court directed that Babu pay a cash bail of Ksh. 200,000 or be remanded until 4th of November when further directions will be issued by the court.
The seven year old minor was rescued by Kibra Child Protection Officer Humphrey Lando who says that he found the girl with broken arms and swollen limbs.
“She pleaded guilty to the charges and stated that she abused the child out of anger. The court then gave her a cash bail of Ksh. 200,000, but was however remanded until she raises the amount of money,” said Lando.
The girl was treated at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital in Hurlingham after which she was placed at the Shofco children’s home as per the court’s directive.
“The girl has been placed under Shofco until later on when we shall be able to get her an alternative children’s home as a government,” said Lando.
