Mombasa court has acquitted Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi of charges of willfully exposing himself in public while suffering from COVID-19 without taking proper precautions.
Mombasa Chief Magistrate Edna Nyaloti ruled that by the time Saburi was being charged, COVID-19 had not been declared an infectious disease.
He was accused of committing the offense between March 6th and 22nd last year within Kilifi County.
Saburi was arrested on April 3, 2020, after completing the forced quarantine period at the Coast General Hospital and being ruled out of danger.
He faced charges for refusing to isolate himself, immediately after disembarking from Germany, a high-risk country with several COVID-19 infections then.
The Health Ministry charged him after he was declared fit after all three tests turned negative
