Independent Policing Oversight Officer has announced that it will charge Pangani Police Officer Ahmed Rashid with murder.

Rashid who has been labeled as a killer cop has been on the spot for quite some time now for carrying out extrajudicial killings in the informal settlements.

IPOA Chairperson Anne Makori says that Rashid will be charged with the murder of two people namely, Jamal Mohamed and Mohamed Dhair Kheri.

“The ODPP after independently interrogating the case file upheld IPOA’s findings that there is sufficient evidence to charge the officer with the offence of murder contrary to section 203 as read with section 204 of the Penal Code,” said Makori.

“Guided by Section 29 (a) of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority Act, the findings were forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions with the recommendation to charge the Corporal Ahmed Rashid, with murder,” she said.

The authority has already moved to the High Court and obtained summons against the police officer. He is set to take plea on December 8, 2022.

In Mathare slums. Eastleigh and Pangani, Rashid has been largely known as the head of Pangani Six, an entity that is largely known for conducting extrajudicial killings.

The charging of Rashid comes at a time when special police unit has been disbanded by the Inspector General of Police.

Human Rights Activists have been piling pressure on the government to have the Pangani Six officers charged over extrajudicial killings.
