Kisumu County Makes Strides In Distribution Of ID Cards

0

Kisumu County Registrar’s Office has so far managed to distribute over 100,000 uncollected ID cards following a directive from Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Matiang’i had in December last year ordered County Commissioners to track down owners of the uncollected IDs.

Michael Oduor Registrar of Ids in Kisumu says that only 10,000 IDs are remaining out of the 120,000 IDs that had not been collected.

“By Monday the data was at 14,242 uncollected IDs. Quite a number has been distributed to their owners leaving behind around 10,000 uncollected IDs. My appeal is to those who have not a picked their IDs to do so and use them for the purposes they are intended for,” said Oduor.

According to Oduor, the ID cards are being distributed to the area chiefs of the respective locations who in turn gave them to the owners.

“We are distributing the cards through the Assistant chiefs and Chiefs. As we speak the chiefs have been visiting our offices  across the county collecting cards to take to those who are not able  to access the office due to lack of transport fee ,” says Oduor.

The sub-county distribution of the IDs currently stands at, Kisumu central 10,365, Nyando 1089,  Kisumu West 815, Kisumu East 678, Nyakach 486, Muhoroni 433 and Seme 376.

“We are distributing the cards through the Assistant chiefs and Chiefs. As we speak the chiefs have been visiting our offices  across the county collecting cards to take to those who are not able  to access the office due to lack of transport fee ,” says Oduor.

This is happening even as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission kicks off its second and final phase of voter registration today.
