Kisumu County Partners With French Agency To Launch Ksh. 9 Billion Water project
County government of Kisumu in partnership with French Development Agency and European Investments Bank are set to launch a Ksh. 9 Billion water extension services project next year February 2022.
The Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency is yet to implement the Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Program in Kisumu to rehabilitate, extend and expand water and sanitation facilities to meet the country’s growing population demand.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio, Kisumu County Water CEC Salmon Orimba, said that planned program seeks to address rising population challenges within Kisumu City and other satellite towns like Maseno.
“Some of the planned activities under the program include , construction of 107km of water supply distribution system within the central , Eastern and Western parts of the city, extending the satellite towns of Maseno and Kiboswa,” Said CEC Orimba.
The project which is funded by both the National government and the European Investment bank will also see rehabilitation and upgrading of Dunga intake/Water Treatment Plant.
This project will also see construction of 70km of sewerage network within the city.
“Preparation of Water Resources and wastewater Management Mastee plan for Kisumu City and Kisumu county, Development of sewer connection strategy as well as the development of new sewerage Treatment works and collection system within the western corridor capacity building for the project,KIWASCO,” added Mr. Orimba.
Water CEC Mr. Salmon further reaffirmed the county’s commitment in ensuring quick acquisition of land for the projects as well as provision of conducive environment for smooth implementation.
