By Jacob Oluoch

All matatus will from Monday next week be barred from accessing the Central Business District in Kisumu County.

A public notice released yesterday by Kisumu County City Manager Abala Wanga states that matatus will not be allowed to enter, drop or pick passengers within the CBD.

Wanga says that Ondiek Street will alternatively act as the service point for all matatus.

Speaking to Ghetto Radio News Wanga said that the decision has come after the several meetings he has held with the stakeholders in the matatu industry for the past three months.

“Matatus from Busia , Bondo those areas will use Ondiek street or Kondele  Bypass or from Kikomi along Mamba Area and engage the roundabout and diverge after Tuskys junction,” said Wanga.

“From there they would be in a position to enter the stage and exit at through Patel roundabout. The ones from Mamboleo will do the same. Those from Nairobi, Kisii, Nyamira will detour after Mega City and enter Ondiek   street and Ondiek street will act as service point and enter the stage and exit,” explained Wanga.

Kisumu boys road, Aga khan, Dal international, Kamas, Kisumu Girls yellow line, National petrol station, Entrance of Jubilee, Ang’awa street, KCC and Kachok stages have also been blocked.

Wanga has further warned that matatus that will not comply with the directive will be impounded.
