Kisumu Governor Launches New Incubation Center to Curb Unemployment
The county government of Kisumu has opened an incubation and innovation Centre of its on kind fitted with a broadband connectivity.
Rotary Youth and Vocational training center will be a hub for providing linkages between various stakeholders to facilitate technology transfer between innovators and industry, promote cooperation in research, bridge the gap between innovators and investors and provide a social support network for youth.
Speaking during the commissioning of Rotary Youth Business Incubation and Innovation center, PS, State Department of ICT and Innovation Mr. Jerome Ochieng who was also a chief guest said that the establishment, Institutionalization and sustainability of business innovation and incubation centres such as this is crucial in encouraging homegrown solutions to the challenges we face.
“This hub is ideally poised to create an ecosystem made up of a wide array of stakeholders from both levels of government, industry, academia, communitarian organization an social partners within Kisumu and beyond,” Ochieng said.
Ochieng said that the governments and business across the globe are rethinking their innovation strategies in an increasingly disruptive business environment. The covid-19 pandemic has also exacerbated the need for innovation to mitigate the turmoil that the disease continues to pile on the globe.
“As a result, Many organizations have come to realization that the only way to survive is change consistently and constantly adapt to new conditions while hedging long-term success to only on their ability to leverage current capabilities but also on taking risks and exploring unknown areas through innovation,” he added.
Kisumu governor on his side said the youths should use the opportunity to enable them get rid of joblessness issues.
The governor said the program is in line with his transformation agenda number four of the county.
“The key for ending the jobless gridlock is intensely training the youth to equip them with the relevant skills. This center will be used to tap potential youth talents that have been ignored for long,” said Nyong’o.
Nyong’o concluded by saying that Kisumu being at the heart of the Lake Region Economic Bloc and economic powerhouse , leading in trade, services and communications in the region must factor in innovation and digitalization as its top priorities for it to remain a pillar that support the region’s social -economic growth.
