Koth Biro Team Umeme Bees Motivated By Departed Patron To Clinch Title

Umeme Bees have vowed to win this year’s 41st edition of the Kothbiro tournament in honor of their patron Stephen Ogos.

Team manager Asif has said the team suffered a big blow in losing their patron and they are looking forward to win the tournament in his honor

“The loss of our patron was a big shock to us because he was the one guiding, funding and motivating us through all the matches that we have been playing either friendlies or the tournament. This year we will do our best to get to the finals and clinch the title in his honor.” said Asif

According to Paul Polosa a fellow organiser at Kothbiro and a close friend, the death of Besh was a big loss to the tournament and also to Umeme Bees because it was through his steering that the team got back the lost glory by recruitment of young talents from  the ground at an early age and also helped promote football in Ziwani as only two players featured in the league including Humphrey Mieno from the estate with rich football history.

“We sat down with the team to plan how to reclaim our lost glory as an estate and a team where the players decided to call themselves Kabanze FC in respect to former FKF President Jacob Udundo but they lator settled on Umeme Bees as most fans could identify with the name from the early days of Kothbiro.” Polosa said

After the tournament the two organisers were able to boost the morale of the players by organising friendly matches with  teams playing in the league which enabled the players to earn call up from different coaches at the national level.

Some of the players who got the opportunity to play in the league through this initiative include ;Mike Odour(Sofapaka), Mohammed Kilume(Sofapaka), Clyde Senaji(Tusker), Martin Ongure(Mathare), Evans Mieno(Equity), Edmond Kwanya(Ulinzi), George Clinton(Sofapaka) and Alywn Tera who plays for Serbatulo in Georgia who are at the champions league play offs.

Umeme Bees will face Kayole Koma in their opening game on Friday morning with the teams calling on their fans to show up in large numbers to support the team.

In group D matches on Wednesday goals were the order of the day with Kingstone FC beating Biafra FC 4-0 in what was an entertaining match with Chrispine Onyango on the score sheet twice.

The other goals for Kingstone were scored by Clinton Kisiavuki in the 15th minute in a shot that the goalkeeper could not be able to contain and in the 35th Kelwish Walabuka added another goal.

The two goals for Hakati were scored by Andrew Mwichu one through a penalty in the 78th minute after a foul was committed in Kahawa Depotivos’ defence.
