Football Kenya Federation has requested for the postponement of the derby pitting Gor-Mahia Versus AFC Leopards.
FKF Boss Nick Mwendwa says the match has been rescheduled to give the national team ample time to prepare for their match against Ghana in the African Cup qualifiers.
Speaking at the draw for the launch of Sportpesa shield cup in Nairobi the FKF boss said that the two teams make the bulk of the national team saying that the new coach Sebastian Migne has requested to have time with the players ahead of the qualifiers.
“We are playing five matches in the next fifteen days and starting this Friday we will play Swaziland in a friendly match , next will travel to India for the four nations tournament since the coach has requested we are expecting KPL to comply” he said.
KPL has maintained that the match will be played as planned saying that the Friendly is not on the Fifa calendar.
The two teams are scheduled to play this weekend at Bukhungu Stadium the same day Harambee Stars are scheduled to play Swaziland.
Gor Mahia has seven players in the National team while leopards have four.
Harambee Stars are scheduled to travel to India to take part in the 2018 Hero Intercontinental Cup, a Four Nations tournament set to be held in Mumbai.
