Ksh. 30 Billion set aside for the elderly

The government will spend close to Ksh 30 Billion on social protection programme this year to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable members in the society.

The Inua jamii programme that involves 530,000 registered elderly persons aged 70 and above will benefit by receiving a monthly stipend of Ksh 2,000 beginning end of this month.

Ministry of Labour and Social protection Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani, said that cash transfer programme  to orphans,persons with disabilities and older persons  will be done through the commercial banks such as KCB, Post Bank, Equity, Co-operative and Mpesa accounts.
