Former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard says Manchester United record signing Paul Pogba has yet to live up to the world-record fee that Manchester United paid for him last summer. He suggested that the midfielder could become a huge problem at Old Trafford in contrary to his price tag.
The red devils paid about £89.3m to bring Pogba back from Juventus in August. Though he has played consistently for Jose Mourinho, the 23-year-old has faced criticism since a underwhelming display in the EFL Cup final last month.
Pogba has scored just four times in 25 total appearances in the Premier League this season. This has seen Lampard say United should be expecting a bigger return on their investment.
“It was a signal of their intentions to spend £90m on player who I wouldn’t say is the finished article,” the former Chelsea star said on Sky Sports on Monday. “He’s got fantastic attributes. He’s strong, he’s got great feet, he’s bigger than you and he’s quicker than you as a midfield player ,”Lampard said.
The retired English player touched on Pogba’s price tag saying that a player of such caliber should produce more.
“But when you have a £90m price-tag on your shoulders, we analyze more and we want more. I’m still wondering, what’s his best position? What kind of player is he? What does he want to be?”. He added.
However, Lampard urges Man United fans to give Paul Pogba a little more time to live up to expectations. He also stated that the high transfer fee may have raised expectations a little too high for a player who has never scored more than 10 goal
