A woman in Nairobi’s Ruai area will spend the night in the cold with her two children.
This is after her landlord removed the roof and the door to her house over claims of rent arrears.
Elizabeth Mugure says that the landlord is accusing her of having rent arrears, claims she says are not true.
Speaking to Ghetto Radio news Mugure says that the goons broke into her house at around 7 am and started removing the iron sheets from the roof under the police’s watch.
“When we woke up in the morning at around 7 am, I heard noise on the roof. I tried to ask them what was going on but they refused to respond. The kids were asleep but the noise woke them up. So neighbours who were outside helped me question them then they told them that they are at work,” narrates Mugure.
“I have a two children, a two year old and a four year old. So how do I live in a house without a door and roof in this rainy season? I cannot move out because I do not have money now,” she stated.
Pleas by neighbours to have them relent fell on deaf ears.
Some neighbours even offered to pay the lady’s rent but the goons would not hear any of it.
Mugure says that her case is currently at the Rents Tribunal awaiting to be resolved.
“I think the guy is trying to intimidate me to have me drop the case at the Rents Tribunal. But I will not be intimidated,” she stated.
Mugure says that her case is case number 106 at the tribunal.
