Newly elected Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa has lauded Sportepesa for sponsoring the Leopards despite the wrangles in the den.
Speaking at the launch of the new sponsorship deal, Mwendwa expressed his excitement saying it is a new thing that has been done in the new age.
AFC has been marred with wrangles and confusions in the past as a result of Competition of the leadership of the club, with Mathews Opwora on one side and Dan Mule on the other.
Two factions were competing for the management of the club had signed separate sponsorship deals with betting firms, Sportpesa and betway.
A move that required the intervention of sports tribunal which in the ruling, sought a solution for a smooth transition at the club, one that would not just deliver new elected leaders and a unified management of the club but also ensure the club is registered as per the 2013 Sports Act.
Despite all these issues Sportpesa saw the need to go ahead and sponsor the Club, who on Wednesday unveiled a five- year sponsorship deal with the betting firm worth Kshs 45-million annually.
A development that will ease the financial pressure that the club has experienced for the past two years .
“What Sportpesa is doing,is breaking the ceiling. When everyone else was running away, they were coming back on board and not in a small way. What we now need is elections (at Leopards) so that we have one leadership.” Mwendwa said.
The Leopards also received Sh225 million five-year shirt sponsorship deal.
