Long Distance Matatu Operators Want Covid-19 Restrictions In The Sector Reviewed Cite Losses
Long distance Matatu operators now want the government to review restriction measures of Covid-19 citing the sprout of illegal private vans that have taken over the business.
They say the Noah and Voxy vans are being allowed to carry passengers in full capacity yet legal matatus have been restricted to 65% capacity per trip.
Immaculate Mugo of Classic Sacco says they have been drained economically and servicing their loans has also become a challenge.
“This NOAH vehicles are taking over our business they are treated as private vans by the police yet they carry passengers in full capacity. The government should review these restrictions and allow the Matatus to fill all seats,” Mugo told Ghetto Radio News.
They are also calling on the government to bring the private vehicle operators who engage in carrying passengers to book.
“They must be taken care of, laws are there and we are doing legal business and we must be given protection,” she added.
