Looming crisis for Mombasa patients as private doctors vow to join strike
Mombasa patients will have to find other ways of getting medical care as even private doctors have threatened to down their tools if the County government fails to reinstate 86 doctors that were fired last week.
Speaking at a press conference in Mombasa, Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Acting Secretary General Chibanzi Mwachonda said that starting Monday, medics from the private hospitals will join the strike.
Chibanzi confirmed that the 86 doctors who had been fired were yet to be reinstated saying that the county government had already advertised for the position.
“This is just the beginning. If counties will not take the issues we have tabled as major concerns, things will worsen not only in Mombasa but countrywide,” said Mwachonda.
Over 300 doctors from the Coast region met in Mombasa and resolved that all fired doctors must be reinstated as the bare minimums that will enable them to go back.
