Former Mungiki sect leader Maina Njenga has pleaded not guilty to seven charges after he was arraigned at the Nakuru Law Courts.

Maina Njenga had been charged with several offenses among them being a member of an organised criminal gang.

Other charges include being in possession of firearms and ammunition.

Azimio Principal Martha Karua who is also the Leader Narc-Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua was Njenga’s lead counsel.

Karua faulted the DCI for referring to her client as a former Mungiki Leader.

She accused the prosecution of using tricks to separate Njenga from his lawyers but until the DPP intervened to have him set him free and present him in court.

“They intended to keep him over the weekend, it was past 1 pm. There have been reports in the press that seem to prejudice the accused, and we want the court to give direction,” Karua said.

He has been released on Ksh. 100,000 or Ksh 50,000 and restrained from making statements through press or public gathering in reference to the case.

Wajackoyah, Wamalwa and Wa Iria had joined Karua, Kioni and wakili Ndegwa at the Nakuru court.
