Makongeni residents have today stormed the Kenya Railways Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme offices demanding removal of a new security firm manning the Railways Houses.

The residents say youths who have been manning Makongeni estate for more than 20 years risk being rendered jobless if the new security firm successfully takes over.

The security firm in question is Matu Security Company allegedly installed by the new Kenya Railways Staff Retirment Benefits Scheme boss.

‘‘We have been providing security to these houses since 2002 and we can’t allow anyone from outside to do our job…youths are jobless and this is the only source of income,’’ the aggrieved youth told Ghetto Radio News.

‘‘We have not refused to pay rent but Kenya Railways must also give back by improving  social services , Makongeni Social hall is full of garbage and  they don’t care,’’ Philip Otieno a leader in Makongeni said.

Later area leaders led by Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa and Makongeni MCA Peter Anyule Imwatok intervened and the matter  was  resolved including the alleged eviction  threats by Kenya Railways.

‘‘Our Youths will continue providing the security and we have talked to them. All letters have been cancelled and no one will be evicted…’’ Aladwa stated.

‘‘We had a fruitful meeting with the CEO and we have agreed that we shall have another follow up on Friday just to iron out all these issues for now our youths will continue with security job,’’ Imwatok added.
