Malkia Strikers Bows out winless at the FIVB World Grand Prix

Kenya women’s volleyball squad Malkia Strikers will have to contend with a position back in Group Three next season after being bundled out of group two after they bowed winless at the FIVB World Grand Prix in Wloclawek,Poland.

Malkia Strikers had a chance to win their last match against Argentina Sunday but they were unable to hold off their opponents losing in straight sets of 26-24, 25-22 and 25-17 to the South Americans ending their six match tournament without a win.

The first technical time-out of the final game ended with Kenya leading at 8-7 before the Argentinians taking a three point lead at 16-13 a few rallies later prompting head Coach  David Lungaho to ask for a break for his team.

The break surely yielded fruits at the beginning when the Malkia Strikers took a 6 points lead but the African Queens failed to maintain their beautiful performance handing Argentina a 26-24 win.

Argentina ended the second set with a 25-22 win and continued to maintain their momentum in the third set taking a 25-17 victory over Malkia strikers.

Kenya played Argentina (twice), Bulgaria, Dominican Republic, Poland and Puerto Rico.

However,Mercy Moim was named the most Impressive player With 18 points, during her team’s final FIVB Group Two preliminary match on Sunday evening in Wloclawek Poland.

The team is expected into the country on Tuesday morning at 6:00AM.
