Mama Fua receive COVID-19 relief package amid tough economic times
On call domestic workers popularly known as ‘Mama fua’ in the areas around Jacaranda, savannah and Greenspan were on Sunday blessed with a COVID-19 care package courtesy of Ghetto Radio fans.
Last week, Ghetto Radio news highlighted the plight of the women who say that they have been badly affected by the current tough economic times.
According to the few who spoke to Ghetto Radio, many people are no longer willing to welcome them to their homes to clean because of the fear of contracting COVID-19.
On Sunday, a group of well-wishers led by Mary Otieno vised the women and donated food staff and basic household material.
“We partnered with Green Africa global foundation managed to mobilize funds to help these women who normally just go house to house seeking to wash clothes for little cash. I normally see them and felt pity because I know with the current situation many people are home and this has trickled down to their daily incomes. We gave food staff and a few things needed in the house just to enable them to be able to survive during these tough times.” She said
The women who received the package expressed their gratitude to the well-wishers.
“At least now we have food to feed our children, we have been really suffering. At least we have some food and even basic items like soap to use around the house.” Said Florence Mwende
