A middle aged man has gone on a hunger strike after his wife was placed in a forced quarantine in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua county.
The man,Joseph Mathenge says his wife Jane Njeri, was placed under mandatory quarantine for 14 days at the Nyandarua High School after she returned home from Migori.
Njeri had allegedly traveled to Migori town to buy fresh produce for her shop in Ol Kalou town.
Upon returning, she was summoned to the Ol Kalou Police Station only to later be whisked off to the quarantine facility.
Mathenge now says his wife was set up by a business rival at the market.
“In this market of Ol Kalou there are women cartels. Last week, my wife travelled to Migori to buy some edibles. When I passed by the market the other day, one of the women told me they were aware that my wife would be quarantined once she comes back…and it came to be, she came back yesterday and was summoned to the Ol Kalou Police Station and I accompanied her. She was locked in and I was told that they were waiting for a team to come and test her.” he said.
Mathenge who is protesting his wife’s quarantine has now asked the county health officers to test his wife to verify her health status then release her if she is negative.
